Loire 725 – Europe’s longest paddle race on the last wild river

The Loire 725 is Europe’s longest paddle race and follows over 725 km the Loire river through France, starting in Roanne and finishing at the ocean in Paimbœuf. Tanja Ecker took part in 2024 and has set the record for a SUP finishing in 5 days/ 75 hours. Also she is only the 2nd women to complete the whole distance on a SUP. The 2024 edition was set up as a self-organised race, meaning you had to plan your stops and overnight stays by yourself, with mandatory support crew on land. Tanja had her dad following in a camper van. You were allowed to paddle between 6 am and 10 pm. The Loire is the last wild river in Europe and passes wild nature, towns, castles and big cities. You also find some hazards and rapids (depending on water level) along the way, which needs strategic planning and also mental and physical strength to cover such an ultra distance. In this video Tanja shows and tells her Loire adventure and gives insights into her experiences and learnings.
